Last second stocking stuffers at Carlton Gallery
Foscoe gallery continues Winter Exhibition and Holiday Sale

Carlton Gallery’s 26th Winter Exhibition is enhanced with new work by local artists Channing Ayers, Maggie Black, Amy Eagles, Jim Cotter and Toni Carlton. The gallery continues its Holiday Sale with a discount of 10% to 33 1/3% on selected items, as the High Country prepares for a peaceful Season.

Jewelry designer, Channing Ayers, has a beautiful collection of necklaces handcrafted in gemstones, multi-colored beads, shells and pearls. Each piece is handcrafted in a distinct, unconventional design with sterling silver closures. Ayers can even incorporate your personal vision for a truly personal and original piece of jewelry.

New work by potter, Maggie Black, features her signature nature inspired botanicals handcrafted into tall slab vases in colors of celadon, blue and tan. Black also crafts pitchers in various sizes with an imprint of oak, maple, and gingko leaves, as well as small tea light candleholders. Each one is individually carved to bring out the beauty and depth of the botanical.

Amy Eagles’ classic leather purses appeal to one’s individual sense of style. Eagles’ distinctive line of handcrafted purses and medicine bags features the rich combination of free-range deer and elk leathers highlighted by ancient mineralized walrus ivory. The straps are corded, an ancient spiral braiding technique, noted for its combination of strength and beauty. Eagles used hides that come from deer and elk that are legally hunted and used for sustenance. These beautiful creatures are wild and free to roam until they are taken, therefore providing a more earth-friendly source of leather. Along with the purse collection, Eagles exhibits handcrafted leather chokers accented with carved bone and wooden beads.

The wrought iron sundial, tables and andirons of Jim Cotter exemplify his blacksmithing skills and creativity. Cotter was not in a formal training structure, so he became very self-motivated to learn blacksmithing. He found this to be a highly rewarding experience and one with no end in sight. Cotter states that “the end result of his creative process is that his work must speak for itself”. After viewing his artistic wrought iron and stone pieces, one must agree that his work does indeed speak for itself. A favorite of gallery visitors is “The Swing Table”. Two figures made of wrought iron with one figure pushing the other in a swing underneath the stone table top brings a smile to any viewer.

Giclees from original mixed media collages by Toni Carlton titled “Dance of the Dragonfly”, “Windows of Joy and Freedom” and “Opening to the Joy of Transformation” as well as giclees of her oil paintings, “Spirit Horse in Motion” and Spirit of the Falls” complete the new work by local artists for the 26th Winter Exhibition which runs through March 15th

Visit Carlton Gallery and take time for peaceful introspection, as the Holiday Season comes to the High Country.
