Its that time of year again, when the young troopers
turns cookies into dough.
Local Girl Scouts have already begun taking orders, with shipments
coming at the end of the month. However, there will be ample
opportunity to stock up, as public sales will continue into
March.
There are about 200 Girl Scouts in the county, and they will
all be able to sell this year. Look for order forms at local
businesses, churches, schools and neighborhoods.
Watauga County Girl Scouts began selling the annual Girl Scout
Cookies on Jan. 2. Varieties include Caramel deLites, Peanut
Butter Patties, Shortbread, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwiches,
Thanks-A-Lot, Lemonades and Daisy-Go-Rounds. Cost is $3.50 per
box.
Catherine Wilkinson, service unit director for Watauga Countys
Girl Scouts, said the only cookie change from last year is that
Cinnaspins have been re-shaped and renamed Daisy-Go-Rounds.
Once again, the Girl Scouts will be supporting U.S. military
troops by offering Operation Sweet Treat. Under the program,
people can purchase a box or more of cookies, and the Girl Scouts
will send it to overseas troops. The countys sales goal
this year is 13,000 boxes.
Preliminary forms will be going around until Jan. 18, though
public sales will offer plenty of chances for people to stock
up on boxes, Wilkinson said.
Cookies will arrive in Watauga County on Jan. 30, and booth
sales will begin in February. Booths will be located at Lowes
Foods, Harris Teeter, Boone Mall and Lowes Hardware on
most Saturdays at select times.
Those who wish to order online can visit cvgirlscouts.org, which
is the Catawba Valley Girl Scouts Web site, and the order
will then be forwarded to local troops.
