Chili Challenge

Over 800 chili lovers turned out for the 11th Annual WinterFest Chili Challenge at the gymnasium of the Blowing Rock Elementary School last Saturday. The event featured lots of great chili, live music and over $800 in cash and prizes for the winners.

Keith Miller won the Amateur division and with it the $500 first place check. Miller also won top honors among the Chili Appreciation Society International entrants.

Robin Miller placed second in the Amateur division, winning $250, while Dick Steinert came in third and won $125.

The People’s Choice Award went to the chefs of the Green Park Inn. The Best Table Award went to Doc’s Rockin’ Chili, presented by Ken “Doc” Summer and Nobia Summer.

The Restaurant division winner was the Meadowbrook Inn. The chili was created by Chef Guy Thomas and presented at the Chili Challenge by Meadowbrook marketing director Vicky McLean.

The Tailgate Chili table came complete with every kind of hot sauce imaginable.

That’s some tasty chili! Meredith Lyons and Steve Milligan of Raleigh spoon it up at the WinterFest Chili Challenge last Saturday.

All aboard! Hayrides took visitors on trips around Blowing Rock Memorial Park all weekend.

The Best Table award went to Doc’s Rockin’ Chili and presenters (l-r) Bill McBrayer, Ken “Doc” Summer and Nobia Summer.

Tina and Mark Nuger of North Wilkesboro represented Empire Distributors at the WinterFest Wine Tasting and Auction at the Meadowbrook Inn.

The WinterFest Ice Sculpture Competition gave visitors a nice photo opportunity.
