Mulls award-winning
photo, Parkway Tunnel.
Mulls winning photograph, Parkway Tunnel, is
from Old East Ridge Road, which he drives every day near his home.
His photograph depicts the parkway and a small stone bridge by
Mile Marker 281 near Parkway Elementary School. A blossoming dogwood
is in the foreground.
Mull has been an amateur photographer for about 30 years and submitted
three photographs to the contest in August. I practically
forgot about it, then I went to the post office, and there it
was, he said of his letter of notification and a prize check
of $100. I take a picture of that tunnel two or three times
a year.
He framed a large version of the photograph, and the Friends of
the Blue Ridge Parkway will publish it in newsletters and publications.
A merchant seaman, Mull began taking pictures of the ocean. Upon
retirement, he plans to pursue the craft of photography more seriously.
Nature and landscapes are his primary interest.
Rick Riddle won second place, Daniel Leeper won third, and honorable
mentions went to Lynne Townsend, Alison Hege and Margaret Dunford.
More than 100 photographs were submitted. Winning photos can be
viewed at www.blueridgefriends.org.
Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway is a non-profit, volunteer organization
