High Country Community Supported Agriculture (HCCSA),
a project to connect local people with local farms and food, is
now offering shares for this seasons produce. Members will
receive a box of 8-10 different vegetables each week from June
2 through Oct. 13.
Maverick Farms of Valle Crucis has been putting the community-supported
agriculture model into practice for the past four years, and growers
in the High Country are now expanding the successful design. The
incorporation of multiple farms provides an even greater variety
of produce while increasing the total capacity for members. During
this pilot year, however, HCCSA is offering only 50 shares, so
interested folks are encouraged to sign up soon.
For an investment of $500 and participation in educational farm
work-day events, members will receive an average of eight pounds
of fresh produce each week for 20 weeks, as well as the opportunity
to participate directly in the local food and farm economy. By
coming to a farm, a major component of CSAs across the nation,
the community can experience firsthand the quality of what they
eat, and observe how food can be grown to meet sustainable standards
in our area.
Members will also be able to buy separate fruit and flower shares,
as well as make direct orders for meat and eggs from local producers.

shares.
