Art for the Heart
ArtWalk celebrates Valentine’s Day

It is now the time that many are staying indoors escaping the winter’s weather. It is also quickly approaching toward Valentine’s Day and the fun of being with the ones you love.

Perry Holbrook is one of ArtWalk’s artists who have a variety of gifts for that special someone.

Holbrook was educated and trained as an engineer. After 25 years in the corporate world, his career as a craft artist began in 2002. He started taking classes at the renowned John C. Campbell Folk School in Asheville. There, he made twig chairs and glass and did copper enameling, blacksmithing and coppersmithing. After a while, he gave up engineering to be a full-time mixed-media studio artist in Asheville.

As a wood craftsman, he became interested in the mixing of other media with the wood.  Today his art incorporates fused glass, copper, steel and clay as well as wood. His mixed media boxes are an ever growing assortment. Each box has a lift off fused glass lid with the body of the box made from contrasting media. Functional, sculptural and interesting, Holbrook has created great pieces for the home or office. His boxes have a variety of uses: jewelry boxes, ring holders, oil lamps, office supply holders, sewing supply holders, etc.

His designs range from small jewelry boxes to oil lamps and copper boxes.

“Holbrook’s designs are a great Valentine’s Day gift for both men and women,” a gallery spokesperson said. “His streamlined and modern ideas are functional, as well as an artistic touch for your perfect gift.”

Perry Holbrook’s work is located on ArtWalk’s main level. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) Boone, N.C. 28607. Though ArtWalk is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m, customers may shop all the time at the gallery’s new online store. ArtWalk continually welcomes new artists of all media and ages to inquire about individual gallery booths for rent.
