Campaign for Liberty rally Feb. 17
Local group to address financial crisis

The Campaign for Liberty will be holding a rally at Appalachian State’s campus next Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 12 to 3 p.m. to discuss the deepening economic crisis, as well as other important topics the group feels are left out of mainstream discussion.

The event, called Rally for the Republic, will be held on Sanford Mall, and will consist of speeches and information booths with visual representations about topics, including America’s economic and monetary problems, foreign policy, the newly elected Obama administration and the Constitution.

The rally will then move onto the sidewalks of King Street, where the group will continue to spread their message.”People need to understand the gravity of our current situation,” said Tim Reaves, media coordinator for the club. “They need to wake up and do something.”

They will also debut an original publication, The Liberty Bell, which will serve as an avenue for the group to disseminate the precepts of liberty to the students of Appalachian State and the citizens of Boone and surrounding areas.

“We want people to leave the rally with a renewed sense of identity as an American,” said Cory Schneider, a recent graduate of Appalachian with a degree in appropriate technology. “We must all understand that without education and true participation in our government, the American people will never achieve the freedom that they deserve, but must earn.”

The Campaign for Liberty is a nonpartisan action group made up of students and Boone area citizens that promotes at its core the overarching ideas of freedom, prosperity and peace.

Composed primarily of Libertarians and Progressives, the club seeks to build a coalition of students from all social and political perspectives for the purpose of debate and education. Members seek to restore the original American republic and move it forward with new ideas created by the citizens themselves.

The Campaign for Liberty meets every Monday at 7 p.m. in Walker Hall, room 309, on the ASU campus.
