St. Valentine hits the slopes

Appalachian Ski Mountain
Looking for an outdoor activity on Valentine’s Day night? Appalachian Ski Mountain is having a firework show at 10:15 p.m. So, after spending a day at the slopes with sweetie, stay and enjoy the show provided by Zambelli Internationale.

Ladies, mark your calendars for Saturday, Feb. 21, because Appalachian Ski is having another ladies night. Also be keeping your eyes open for the sixth Fresh Friday event Friday, Feb. 20. As far as the last Fresh Friday, everyone enjoyed the new park setup.

Check out next week’s Fresh Friday to enjoy an entirely new set up. As of Feb. 11, the terrains conditions all the features are open in both parks. Appalachian’s slope conditions are groomed with an 84 to 109 inch base with all slopes and lifts open and fully operational.

Sugar Mountain Resort
Boss Hawg will be performing Feb. 14 at Sugar Mountain. Enjoy the sounds of original North Carolina Bluegrass with your loved ones, while skiing Sugar’s slopes.

And do not forget about Sugar Bear’s Birthday Celebration Monday, Feb. 22. Join Sugar Bear in his great bear race or sit back and enjoy a magical show while eating cake and ice cream. This is a perfect event for families to enjoy with their children.

As of Feb. 11, 20 slopes are open and six lifts are operational. Sugar Mountain has nine inches snowfall from the last storm, and the average snow depth is between 44 and 80 inches of loose, wet granular.

Hawksnest Resort
Due to the warm bout of weather, Hawksnest has closed down this week until Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. As of Feb. 11, Hawksnest’s current temperatures are 44 degrees Fahrenheit with highs in the mid-40s.

Ski Beech
Beech Mountain partied the weekend away with its 3rd Rail Jam last weekend with graffiti, deejays and a fresh setup of features. The event was a winners-take-all event, and the winners of the three categories were:

Best of Breed Winner – Charlie Owens
Women’s – Heather Phillips
15 and under – (8 years old) Luke Winkelmann

As of Feb. 11, Beech currently has 12 out of 15 slopes open and five lifts operational with a 40 to 70 inch base of wet granular snow. Local hit Do It To Julia will be playing Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Beech Tree Bar and Grill from 9 pm. until 12 a.m.
