Local notables will be rolling up their sleeves, tying
on their aprons, and providing service with a smile for a good
cause.
This years Celebrity Serve is in the planning phase, with
the annual fund-raising event scheduled for April 7. Last years
Celebrity Serve raised more than $50,000 for the Ted Mackorell
Soccer Complex and organizers hope to top that amount this year.
The beneficiary of Celebrity Serve 2009 is Hospitality Houses
Giving Hope a Hand Combined Campaign for building
and operating a new homeless shelter for the High Country. All
money raised from this years Celebrity Serve will go toward
building a kitchen for the facility.
Hopefully, it will be a bigger event, said Gwen Dhing,
one of the event organizers and owner of Makotos Seafood
& Steakhouse of Japan, which annually participates in the
fundraiser. Celebrities will be working at local restaurants
and people come out and dine there and all the tips the celebrities
earn goes toward the charity and most restaurants contribute at
least 10 percent to the cause.
This is the fourth year of the event, and each restaurant will
have between five and 20 celebrities serving. Last year, 18 restaurants
participated.
As of Wednesday, the following restaurants were participating:
Makotos, Peppers, Bandanas, Casa Rustica, Storie
Street Grill, Chetola Restaurant, Char, Troys 105 Diner,
Glidewells, Mast Farm Inn, Gadabouts, Peddler, Los Arcoiris, Beef
OBradys, Six Pence Pub, Woodlands and Red Onion.
The Celebrity Serve has a designated group on Facebook for more
information, and personalities who want to serve can e-mail celebrityserve@gmail.com.
Personalities can also be recommended to the events planning
committee.
