A Lansing man remains hospitalized at Baptist Medical Center
in Winston-Salem following a single car
 |
accident on Old Highway 16 last Friday afternoon.
Information gathered from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol
(NCSHP) accident investigation report, and visual evidence at
the scene, suggests that Darren D. Goodman, 27, of Lansing,
was traveling south on RP 1573 (Old 16) when his Jeep Wrangler
left the road and struck a ditch. The vehicle then partially
climbed an embankment across the ditch. The vehicle continued
south along the embankment for several feet before reentering
the roadway.
The vehicle crossed he center line and the northbound lane,
traveled off the northbound shoulder and struck a tree, doing
significant damage to the vehicle. State troopers on the scene
estimate Goodman's speed to be 30 mph at the time of the accident.
Goodman received class-two, or incapacitating, injuries and
was transported to Baptist Hospital where a spokesperson said
that he "is in good condition" but was unable to release
any additional information. Family members have requested that
all inquiries be made through hospital staff. - Ron Fitzwater
