Easter at ArtWalk

Although winter’s chilly winds are still in the air, Easter is quickly approaching. A time of family gatherings, religious events and fun, it is a time to retire the drab and dark for the light and spirited.

To help celebrate one of spring’s most festive holidays, ArtWalk is proud to feature the work of Peter Priess from Vienna, Austria. Thought the gallery features local, regional, and national artists, Priess is its first international artist.

Priess’ hand painted Easter eggs are one way to decorate the home for Easter. Using real eggs, Priess carefully blows out the yolk and cleans the egg in order to create a long-lasting surface. Then, he hand paints each egg with a unique design with either a spring or Easter theme. From chicks, daisies, lambs, bunnies and much, much more, there is an egg for every décor. After the paint has dried, he carefully threads a coordinating ribbon through each egg for hanging.

Priess’ attention to detail is admired by all who peruse is work. He uses a variety of materials to bring texture and depth to various eggs.

“One of his deigns is especially enchanting,” an ArtWalk spokesperson said. “A pale pink egg is uniquely transformed when Priess overlaid intricate velvet using the same pale pink. This monochromatic egg at first seems plain, but at second glance, its detailed beauty comes alive.”

Priess is inspired to create his Easter eggs from his childhood experiences. From Easter egg hunts to the big family dinner, eggs played a huge part of celebrating the Easter holiday. He grew up with the tradition of blowing eggs and his talent for depicting spring scenes inspired him to combine his love of spring with his unique talents to produce beautiful works of art celebrating spring and all its fun.

Peter Priess’ work is located on ArtWalk’s main level. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) Boone, N.C. 28607. Though ArtWalk is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m, customers may shop all the time at the gallery’s new online store. ArtWalk continually welcomes new artists of all media and ages to inquire about individual gallery booths for rent.
