My Inner Child’ at Morning Star Gallery

Mother Earth at the Morning Star Gallery

Many moments of life are spent remembering the wonder, joy and creativity of childhood.

Whether one’s fascination was in building blocks or pop-bead necklaces, those ideas of color and construction can be revisiting through an artistic exhibition at Morning Star Gallery on Sunset Drive in Blowing Rock.

Along the gallery’s sidewalk, Ema Godfrey’s rope-skipping girls catch attention, while large canvases painted by Jonas Gerard await viewers inside, reminding one of time spent playing and taking the world in through a wide-eyed view.

This exhibition features sculpture, glass, assemblage, paintings and prints, as well as small whimsies sure to remind viewers of their own childhood days.

Cher Shaffer’s paintings revisit summer nights with her sister, as they delighted in the blinking lightning bugs in their jelly jars. Sculptor Bill Skrips’ childhood love of trains is expressed in his unusual construction using found objects. And Simone Wilson’s playful objects d’art are the happy result of time spent with her grandfather, Hugh, who encouraged Simone’s gift of using “nothing” to make “something,” something exciting and imaginative.

Diane Kline’s art explores the four seasons, and glass artist Val Beck’s painterly scenes on her husband’s blown glass bowls are testament to every kid’s fascination with creatures that swim and crawl. Robin Kent’s assemblages and Tracey Marshall’s paintings revisit the garden as a place of discovery and growth.

Trena McNabb’s worldly viewpoint offers several paintings, featuring “mother earth” as an expressive and creative force in our lives. McNabb’s carefully rendered paintings show both the interconnectedness of this earthly life and its vast diversity.

In addition to this special exhibition, Morning Star Gallery continues to show giclees by Wes Waugh and art and crafts from throughout the region. Everything in the gallery is handmade in the U.S.A. Visitors to the gallery will find artisan jewelry, pottery, blown glass and artistic garden accessories, including giant and colorful flowers.

The public is invited to visit and view the spring exhibition of American-made art and fine crafts.

Morning Star Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Wednesday in April. For more information, call (828) 295-6991 or e-mail mstargallery@bellsouth.net. Morning Star Gallery is located at 257 Sunset Drive in Blowing Rock.
