Livinston Taylor plays Blowing Rock April 25
James Taylor’s brother comes to Hayes Center

Livingston Taylor

Yes, he may be James’ little brother, but the Boston-born, Chapel Hill-reared singer-songwriter is a notable artist in his own right.

With a charming and warm stage presence that has manifested a busy concert schedule, Livingston Taylor shows off those famous family pipes when, as part of his national tour, he stops at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock on Saturday, April 25, to celebrate the release of his critically acclaimed latest CD, There You Are Again.

At 55, Taylor’s vocals are eerily reminiscent of James, but his songs are pure Livingston. Some call them “sweet,” some “sentimental,” others “upbeat pop.” His latest CD, which welcomes guest artists including Carly Simon, Andrae Crouch and Vince Gill, takes on swing (“My Perfect Christmas” featuring Al Jarreau), gospel (“Tell Jesus” with Take 6), and old-school testifying (“Step by Step” and “Tell Jesus (To Come To My House)”).

In his 30-plus years as a professional musician, Taylor has toured with such major artists as Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffett, Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull. He has recorded 13 albums and currently maintains a performing schedule of more than 100 shows a year, including club, theater, college, and full symphony repertoires.

The poetic Taylor, who plays both guitar and piano, has written most of his own songs, including such Top Forty hits as “I Will Be in Love with You” and “I’ll Come Running”; as well as those recorded by his brother James, such as “I Can Dream of You,” “Going Round One More Time,” and “Boatman” (a track featured on the double Grammy-winning album Hourglass). A self-described “pop singer,” Livingston Taylor received the 1998 Boston Music Award for outstanding folk artist.

Taylor is the author of two children’s books, Pajamas and Can I Be Good?, and is currently a full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

The Hayes Performing Arts Center presents Livingston Taylor on April 25 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $26, $14 student, and are available now by calling the box office at (828) 295-9627 or online at www.hayescenter.org. You may pay by credit card or by cash (in person).

The Hayes Performing Arts Center is located at 152 Jamie Fort Road (off U.S. 321), Blowing Rock.
