All shows will be at Benton Hall, located 300 West D St. in Wilkesboro.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.wilkesplaymakers.com or by calling (336) 838-PLAY and leaving a message .

Tickets may also be purchased at the box office in Benton Hall one hour prior to each performance. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more upon request. MasterCard and Visa are accepted.

The large cast is filled with talented young people from Wilkes and surrounding areas. The play is based upon the Newbery Award-winning book by Louis Sachar, which was later adapted into the popular Disney movie starring Shia LeBeouf.

Holes examines the life of teenager Stanley Yelnats IV, who is wrongfully convicted of stealing a famous athlete‘s sneakers. Of course, this is all due to the Yelnats family curse brought on by his “no-good, dirty rotten, pig-stealing great-great-grandfather.”

For his crime, Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake, where nothing is green and there is no lake. Here, the Warden and her two henchmen, Mr. Sir and Dr. Pendanski, command the camp-mates to dig holes in the desert, all in the name of building character.

The story is told with flashbacks from different places and times that intertwine with the present. When the story flashes back to the mystery revolving around Stanley’s family curse, the characters in present time remain on the stage as characters from the past move around them. While “Holes” will particularly appeal to a middle school and high school audience, it deals with a complicated story very maturely and does not pander to a “child’s” sensibility.
