Studio K Youth Ballet Company presents two fanciful ballets
this weekend at Farthing Auditorium May 2 at 7 p.m. and May
3 at 3 p.m.
Opening the performance will be Alice in Wonderland. Dancers
will bring to life Lewis Carrolls story through classical
and contemporary ballet.
This whimsical, wondrous tale of a young girls imagination
will draw adults and children alike into its magical realm.
The Cheshire Cat, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the White Rabbit,
the Queen of Hearts, the March Hare and Mad Hatter, along with
a bouquet of other dancing characters, play host to this classical
tale.
The music for Peter and the Wolf was composed by Sergei Prokofiev
in 1936 and is considered the perfect way to familiarize young
audiences with the structure of orchestral music and appreciation
for dance.
Each character in the ballet is represented by a different
group of instruments, while the dancers perform the tale of
the young boy named Peter, his animal friends and the adventures
they have once a wolf appears in the meadow near Peters
home.
Studio K Ballet Company invites the community to join Alice
and Peter, along with their cast of characters, for an evening
of story book tales. There will be two opportunities to experience
these performances, Saturday, May 2, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May
3, at 3 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at Farthing Auditorium on the Appalachian
State University campus or by calling the box office at (828)
262-4046.
