They’re looking for a few good comittee members

The town of Boone is seeking volunteers to fill several vacant positions on town committees, boards and commissions.

Okay, these folks aren’t on any town of Boone boards. Heck, they don’t even live in Watauga County. They’re stock-photo models but, well, you get the idea. And, yes, the diagram on the board is meaningless.

The Cable TV Advisory Board has one vacant position. The board is responsible for reviewing the franchise agreements with the local cable television company and looking at rate increases for basic charges. Board members then make recommendations regarding the services to the town council. Members are appointed for three-year terms. Applicants for the Cable TV Advisory Board must reside within the town limits.

The Greenway, Parks and Gardens Committee also has one vacant position. This committee reviews considerations and makes recommendations to the council regarding improvements to the parks and gardens within Boone. The committee also oversees the Greenway Trail. Terms are open-ended and the committee is open to all Watauga County residents.

There are three open positions on the Water-Use Committee. Members review and make recommendations regarding the town’s water and sewer code and other issues related to water and sewer needs within Boone. The Water-Use Committee is open to all county residents and terms are open-ended.

The Planning Commission has two vacancies to fill to represent the town’s extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ). The commission is charged with making studies and recommendations regarding growth, development and redevelopment with the town limits and the ETJ. Members also develop and recommend policies, ordinances and administrative procedures. The Planning Commission also works with the Board of Adjustment by making recommendations concerning conditional use and special use permits, and proposed zoning map charges. Applicants for the two positions must live in the ETJ. Members are appointed for a four-year term.

The deadline to apply for appointment to any of the above positions is May 21. For more information contact Freida Van Allen, town clerk, at (828) 268-6204 or via email at freida.vanallen@townofboone.net. An application form is available for download at the town Web site at www.townofboone.net.
