Southern Accent hosts Fellowship Celebration

Day-long event promises music, food and fun

Southern Accent’s much-anticipated Annual Fellowship Celebration is just around the corner (May 16), and this year’s event may be one of the most special to date, as the group celebrates its 15th anniversary.

Southern Accent began as a bluegrass group back in 1994, with Dennis and Paulette Isaacs, Ronnie Hicks, Gary Trivette and Connie Norris. At first, this was pretty much just a chance for some folks who enjoyed singing and playing music to get together and do just that on a very informal basis. But, as more folks heard the group, Southern Accent’s calendar began filling up. And, the rest, as they say, is history.

With 15-plus years under their belt, the members of Southern Accent have not swayed in their commitment to use the talent that God has given them to further the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though their horizons are broadening and their travels are crossing more and more state lines, the members don’t feel that they want to change the focus of their ministry. Festivals give the group a chance to play some tasteful bluegrass songs and instrumentals, but this also lends them an avenue to carry gospel music into the lives of the listeners.

Their Annual Fellowship Celebration is a family-oriented, day-long event that is open at no charge to anyone who wishes to attend. Southern Accent first began this celebration in alignment with the release of their well-loved recording, Listen to the Word, back in 2001. Since the success of that first year, the crowds have grown, the number of musical groups has increased, and the goal of the day has remained the same: to show everyone a good time and to show Southern Accent’s appreciation for all of the people that support them in their ministry.

This year, the event will take place Saturday, May 16, at the Cove Creek Elementary School on Vanderpool Road. Beginning at 10 a.m., the music will last all day into the night and end around 9 p.m. Lunch from Subway and a spaghetti supper will be provided for the attendees.
