Motorcycle enthusiasts cannot only now be “hogs” on the road, they can also be hogs in a new edgy motorcycle themed restaurant in Banner Elk – Choppers.

Choppers, owned and operated by Brad and Janet Patchell, serves large portions for large appetites and is located in the Banner Elk Best Western Mountain Lodge.

“It’s just a fun, casual atmosphere,” Patchell said, “something that Avery County has never seen.”

Patchell wants to focus on serving customers quickly for lunch and is offering a lunch buffet, “So people can be in and out in 30 minutes.” Choppers will also have a breakfast buffet.

Choppers serves everything from Philly cheesesteaks to eight-ounce hamburgers, steaks and ribs, and also a feast for one’s eyes.

The restaurant is covered from floor to ceiling with not only motorcycle and Harley Davidson memorabilia, but actual motorcycles. One motorcycle is even suspended from the ceiling above the booth section of the restaurant. For kids, Choppers offers a very special dining experience: children can sit on an actual four-wheeler that has been converted into a table, with a table-top drilled directly onto the handlebars.

“Kids can pull right up to the table with their parents,” Patchell said.

Choppers also offers a full service bar, as well as catering for special ballroom events, and food and bar service at the hotel’s pool.

“We plan to have live entertainment not only in the restaurant on the weekends, but also at the pool,” Patchell said. “The pool is open to the public as long as you’re eating or drinking. You can even come in, buy a steak, and go to the picnic areas around the hotel and grill it yourself.”

Patchell said he would like to have an annual or semi-annual bike week, so stay tuned for more information on bike week as it becomes available.

Choppers’ opening night was Friday, May 1. Call (828) 898-7665 for reservations or more information.
