On Saturday, May 2, the Avery Arts Council invited all Quilt
Square owners to a party celebrating their participation in
the Avery Quilt Trail.
Folks arrived from as far away as Asheville and Morganton,
along with a good turnout of locally based owners. The misty
spring weather was no deterrent, as everyone gathered in the
Cheese House Gallery and got to know each other a little better.
Members of the Quilt Trail Committee Fred Pfohl, Rachel Deal,
Peggy and Paul Hobart, Renee Castiglione, and Barbara Timberman
were on hand to meet the people whose squares they had helped
to paint and hang. The backdrop of lively designs from
noted quilt square artist Heidi Fishers gallery exhibition
was in perfect harmony with the occasion.
Hors doeuvres provided by committee and board members
lined the table and were enthusiastically received by all. Joining
in the fun were members of the Friends of the Arts Council,
along with board president Freda Greene, vice president Mary
Ray, and board member Alaina Daniels.
The Avery Quilt Trail program is a public art project for
rural settings. At present, there are 34 quilt squares
adorning the scenic barns and buildings of Avery County. To
participate, call the arts council office at (828) 898-4292
