Blue Ridge Community Theatre will present The Dixie Swim Club
by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten May 29-31.
The play tells the story of how five Southern women, whose
friendships began on their college swim team, reunite every
August at the beach for a girls weekend.
The comedy spans a period of 33 years. Sheree, the spunky
team captain, tries to maintain her organized and perfect
life. Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever, is an attorney with
lots of personal frustrations. Lexie, the pampered and outspoken
one, is determined to hold on to her looks and youth as long
as possible. Vernadette, aware of the dark cloud that hovers
over her life, has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos.
And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry
into motherhood that takes them by surprise.
The Dixie Swim Club is the story of these five unforgettable
women, a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that
last forever, a BRCT spokesperson said.
The show stars Amy Beane, Cindy Brown, Kathy Cottrell, Shelia
Deal and Kay Stacy. It is directed by Trimella Chaney and produced
by Kathleen Rowell.
The play will be presented at the Broyhill Inn and Conference
Center on the campus of Appalachian State University. Show times
are May 29 at 7:30 p.m., May 30 at 3 and 7:30 p.m., and May
31 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and include such delectable edibles as a biscuit
bar. Tickets can be purchased at the Broyhill Inn, Boone Drug-Deerfield
and online at www.brctnc.org.
