Watauga Arts Council announces a call for entries
for Memory through, from, was, is, to, and, upon, created
. . . Appalachia, a juried exhibition developed to allow
regional artists to compete and display work at the Jones House
Community Center main gallery during October 2009.
October is one of the most frequented times in
this downtown Boone gallery, due to the numbers of visitors
to the area during the fall leaf season.
The call for entries is open to all artists 18
years and older who reside in Watauga or adjoining counties.
Entries must be original works and created within the past two
years. Works may be created in any medium, but must be two-dimensional
in orientation, and must not exceed 40 inches in any direction.
Pieces must be framed or gallery wrap with hanging wires and
ready to hang. Entry deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Noyes Capehart will jury the exhibit. Capehart
began exhibiting at the local, regional and national level in
1958 and has participated in more than a hundred competitive
exhibitions and a number of invitational shows. His work has
been represented in exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American
Art in New York City, the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian Museum
in Washington D.C., the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Greenville
Museum of Art, and the Mint Museum in Charlotte.
Since his retirement from Appalachian State University,
he has presented 23 studio workshops throughout the southeast.
In addition to his active studio involvement, he has adjudicated
several regional exhibitions. Since 1995, he has written four
(unpublished) novels, a novella and numerous short stories.
Watauga Arts Council galleries are sponsored
