Watauga High School’s SkillsUSA attended the state conference in Greensboro April 21-23. Among the winners were Daniel Miller, first place in Automotive Service Technology for the N.C. Auto Dealers Association; Jessica Lawrence, first place in Automotive Service Technology for the N.C. Auto Dealers Association; Chris Welch, sixth place in the Ford/AAA Competition; Alden Mast, first place in Automotive Service Technology for SkillsUSA; Justin Cox, second place in Diesel Service Technology; Austin Story, fifth place in Diesel Service Technology; and Adam Bowen, fourth place in Marine Service Technology. Not pictured is Cole Campbell, who won sixth place in the Ford/AAA Competition. The SkillsUSA teams won $87,000 in prizes and scholarships this year, with Lawrence and Miller placing third in the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York. Watauga High School students who received 32 hours of Huskins college credit in the Automotive Technology program also graduated from Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute. Watauga High School’s SkillsUSA Cosmetology program brushed up in various vocational areas during the April conference in Greensboro. Competitors included (L-R) Sara Guinn, Heather Watson, Kendra Fletcher, Katherine McCard and Haley Hartley. McCard took fourth place in men’s haircutting, while Kristen Sanders (not pictured) took fifth place in Cosmetology Skills. Sanders, McCard, Guinn, Watson and Hartley took first place in the Cosmetology Quiz Bowl. Photo submitted
