Golf tourney raises $90,000 for Crossnore School

Eighty-six golfers met at Linville Resorts May 14 for an exciting day of golf during the 11th annual Crossnore Children’s Golf Classic.

The Skyline Membership Corporation team, with a score of 50 and including players Jim Sheppard, Robert Andrews, Hal Wooten and Gary Poole, won first place.

Phil Leaman of Newland was the fortunate man who went home with the $5,000 cash prize from the raffle.

This year’s event raised more than $90,000 to benefit the children of The Crossnore School and will be used to help complete site preparation and landscaping for two new cottages, which will complete a 10-year goal that every child at Crossnore will live in a homelike setting.

This year’s tournament sponsors were Rinehart & Associates of Charlotte, Superior Stone of the Southeast of Charlotte, Brown Brothers Harriman Inc. of Charlotte, HVAC Inc. of Bristol, Wilkie Construction of Lenoir, The Broyhill Family Foundation of Lenoir and High Country Bank a division of Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust, of Linville.

The Crossnore School also thanks Bick Cardwell of Atlanta, Crossnore trustee and tournament chair, Transport Graphics of Charlotte, U.S. Foods, Hormel Foods, Chandler Foods, McKintrye Sales, Synergy Coverage Solutions, LLC, Patrick Brown Jazz Ensemble, Mercedes-Benz of South Charlotte, Mary Irwin Belk Dining Hall, hole sponsors, team sponsors, golf participants and volunteers for their support and for making this event a success, a spokesperson for the school said.

“Linville Resorts has graciously sponsored this event for The Crossnore School for 11 years, and we sincerely thank John Blackburn, Linville Resorts Inc., Tom Dale, golf professional of Linville Golf Club, and Barbara Pollygus, food and beverage manager of Linville Resorts,” the spokesperson said.
