The Watauga Arts Council is offering summer art classes for young people at the Jones House Community Center.

Students can choose to attend all sessions of classes offered each Monday from June 15 through Aug. 3 or can opt to participate in mini-workshops of two consecutive classes.

The class listings and prices are as follows:

Art Fun Days

(ages 8-10)

Class Time: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Session Fee: $115/ Mini Workshop fee: $33

Kids come prepared to get creative while having fun! During Art Fun Days, kids will explore art concepts and techniques, while using a variety of art materials, including paint clay, wire, found objects, oil pastels, watercolor and more.

The Drawing Board

(ages 11-18)

Class Time: 1-3 p.m.

Session Fee: $145/ Mini Workshop Fee: $40

Students will enhance their drawing skills by exploring tips, techniques and art styles that artists have used throughout the centuries. They will experiment with a variety of mediums, such as pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, chalk pastels and watercolor while focusing on principles and elements of art. Come one come all; let’s get “back to the drawing board!”

Painters’ Knack

(ages 11-18)

Class Time: 3-5 p.m.

Session Fee: $145/ Mini Workshop Fee: $40

Don’t get the “how to’s” of painting? Learn the “knack” of painting by using tips and techniques in glazing, blending, and color theory while using acrylic paints. Painters will gain the “know how” and confidence while having fun exploring several diverse art movements.

Sessions will meet each Monday, from June 15 through Aug. 3. Mini-workshops involve two class times to create an art piece from beginning to end.

If interested in mini-workshops, e-mail hhsoukup@bellsouth.net for dates and details of each art activity.

All fees include room rental, supplies and art instruction. There is a capacity of 12 students per class. All instruction is provided by local artist and instructor Holly Soukup
