Get a Peaceful and Exciting Outdoor Experience at RiverCamp

Since 1986, RiverCamp USA has been offering a one-stop location for family fun. They offer everything from

camping and canoeing to kayaking and tubing and are located close to hiking, biking, horseback riding and gem mining. The camp is located on the peaceful and historic New River.

RiverCamp also has full RV hook-ups available with 30/50 amp pull-throughs and river sites, tent sites with water and electric, picnic table fire rings, hot showers and clean restrooms. Along with the canoe, kayak and tube rentals, the camp offers a playground, laundry area and WiFi.

Joanne and Jay Reid have been the owners of RiverCamp since 1993. They want campers to know there are "super cool evenings in the summer and quiet, peaceful surroundings with a tranquil river setting. We have it all, camping, canoeing, and a store in a quiet, natural setting," said Joanne.

The camp also has a small convenience store with snacks, beverages, beer and wine, ice, firewood, a limited selection of groceries and "everything you need for a weekend camping trip," according to the owners.

RiverCamp USA has rules and regulations to make everyone's stay an enjoyable family experience, said Joanne.

"A party atmosphere is not tolerated. Scouts, church groups and families love our group tent areas," she said, A quiet time is observed between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.

"You can have a peaceful, relaxing weekend or a fun-filled family outing," she said. Reservations are recommended. "We suggest making a reservation as soon as you know your plans," said Joanne. "Some weekends get booked up."

RiverCamp's website boasts that guests can "enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Shatley Springs Restaurant, world famous Frescoes, mountain crafts and antiques, fiddlers conventions and golfing. There's so much to choose from you'll have trouble deciding. In fact, you may just decide to do nothing at all."

Tent camping rates range from $8 to $24 while RV hook-ups are $26 to $30. Some weekday discounts are available. Canoe rentals range in price from $20 to $50 depending on the trip length and group size. Kayak trips range from $18 to $30. Tube rentals are all under $10. For a tube with shuttle and a two-and-a-half hour float, the cost is $8. For the tube only, it's $4 for four hours and $6 for a full day. Rates are subject to change.
