Blowing Rocks Celebration Of Ice & Snow Set
For January 24-27
Story by Jeff Eason
Ten years ago someone had the bright idea to share our High Country
winter wonderland with the lowlanders in
the rest of the Southeast. It was debatable if the appeal of snow
and icy temperatures would prove to be a lure to people enjoying mild
winters elsewhere.
Ten years later we have our answer. Blowing Rocks Winterfest
Celebration has turned into one of the High Countrys best-attended
annual events. This years Winterfest will be bigger and better
than ever and is scheduled for January 24-27, 2008.
Winterfest features a wealth of activities for the entire family,
some of them presented as charity events aimed at helping local worthy
causes, some of them just for the fun of it. Winterfest will include
the famous Chili Cook-Off open to professional and amateur cooks,
the Pancake Breakfast, hayrides and ice carving in Blowing Rock Memorial
Park, the Polar Plunge at Chetola Lake, WinterFeast, live music, a
wine auction and wine tasting, theatrical presentations, kids activities,
bonfires, a silent auction, and plenty of special deals offered by
area merchants and restaurants.
Blowing Rocks 10th Annual Winterfest Celebration is presented
by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce. Tickets and more information
are available at the Blowing Rock Visitors Center and at the Hayes
Perofmring Arts Center Box Office. Winterfest Headquarters is located
at the Blowing Rock Historical Museum, adjacent to Memorial Park on
Main Street.
