Bohemia may not be the only place in Ashe County to get a cup of
coffee, but it could easily be the most beautiful. The walls inside
Janet and Ken Brashears diminutive but airy cafe are covered,
quite literally, in art.
Located near the end of West Jeffersons shop and gallery-lined
main street, Jefferson Ave., Bohemia fits right in with the small
town meets art colony atmosphere that abounds in its revitalized downtown
area.
Of course, the art on the wall represents only a portion of the Bohemia
experience. The Beshears also offer a wide variety of espresso-based
drinks, coffee, and assorted teas. Bohemia features fair-trade and
organic coffee blends From Counter Culture Coffee, and freshly baked
goods and other delicious concoctions provided by Stickboy Bakery.
And if that cup of coffee leaves a longing for more, Bohemia is now
selling coffee by the-pound.
The cafe also features some of the best musicians, songwriters and
original music the High Country has to offer.
Earlier this year, Bohemia became an official outlet and tasting venue
for Ashe Countys first and so far, only winery,
Lansings New River Winery. They offer wine tastings, wine by
the glass, and bottle sales of Bohemia White, Bohemia Red, Backporch
Blueberry, and two of New Rivers newest wines, the Viognier
and the Pinot Blanc. Wines are available to taste after 11 a.m., each
day. Bottle sales are available anytime during normal operating hours.
Bohemia is open five days a week Tuesday through Thursday from
8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.. On Friday and Saturday Bohemia closes at 5:30
as well, but when live music is scheduled it reopens at 6:30 p.m.
